The Psalm Project #29

Make them [the enemies] like tumbleweed, O my God,
like chaff before the wind (Psalm 83:13 NIV).
Dear God, You have the power to take every obstacle before me
and turn it into dust.
That’s not always Your will;
You desire that I love You more, depend on You completely,
trust You with all my heart.
I desire intimacy with You as well.
Help me draw closer to You whether I am in trouble or everything is cool.
My confidence and security are in You. Amen.

Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand,
The son of man you have raised up for yourself (Psalm 80:17 NIV).
Dear Lord God, Asaph knew You would send a Savior,
though it would be a thousand years until his hope was realized.
We know that Jesus will come again,
though we’ve been waiting two thousand years.
Our hope is sure. Come soon, Lord Jesus. Amen.

The Psalm Project #27

I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter hidden things, things from of old—
what we have heard and known,
what our fathers have told us (Psalm 78:2-3 NIV).
Dear God, we remember what You have done throughout human history.
It is good for us to meditate on Your power and mercy.
Let us never cease to sing Your praises and proclaim Your works. Amen.

The Psalm Project #26
Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins,
all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.
Your foes roared in the place where you met with us;
they set up their standards as signs.
They behaved like men wielding axes
to cut through a thicket of trees.
They smashed all the carved paneling
with their axes and hatchets.
They burned your sanctuary to the ground;
they defiled the dwelling place of Your Name.
They said in their hearts, “We will crush them completely!”
They burned every place where God was worshiped in the land (Psalm 74:3-8 NIV).
Dear God, the enemies of Israel destroyed the temple
in an effort to terminate the people of God.
But You are Immanuel—God with us.
Your Holy Spirit resides in us, as does Your Son,
connecting us intimately to You.
Despite the power of evil, Your people thrive,
protected by Your presence.
Lord, let me walk with You forever. Amen

The Psalm Project #25
Even when I am old and gray,
do not forsake me, O God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your might to all who are to come (Psalm 71:18 NIV).
Dear God, You are the Creator of the universe.
The forces of evil are nothing to You;
You have conquered them.
You are the gravity that holds all things together;
on the last day, You will let go,
and mankind will tremble.
You are the source of all power,
of all goodness and mercy.
Satan thought he could usurp Your power;
he was wrong. Though he attracted followers,
You freed them through the blood of Your Son.
May I always declare Your power and Your love.
May all generations worship and adore You. Amen.

The Psalm Project #24

You know my folly, O God;
my guilt is not hidden from you (Psalm 69:5 NIV).
Dear God, I confess that I have sinned.
I know what is right, but I my selfishness
I neglect to do it.
I speak words that wound.
I make jokes that hurt.
I have not been a good daughter, sister, wife, mother.
I’ve fallen short as a teacher and a writer.
Every role you’ve given me has been tainted by my shortcomings.
In Your patience, You have taught me,
but I am stubborn and a slow learner.
I mourn that there is no good in me.
It is inconceivable that You should love me,
but You have forgiven me.
You have accepted Jesus’ life in payment for my sins.
You exchanged my guilt for salvation.
Lord, You bought me; I am Yours.
Transform me into the person You created me to be. Amen.

The Psalm Project #23

Blessed are those you choose
and bring near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
of your holy temple (Psalm 65:4).
Lord, You created the universe.
All that exists belongs to You,
and You provide it to us.
You promise that Your abundance is ours forever,
for all who draw close to You through Jesus, Your Son.
How can it be that God would give heaven to those who love Him?
And why would anyone turn Him down?
Dear God, Your Presence is available to me right now.
Keep me mindful of Your Holy Spirit within me.
Let me never take Your blessings for granted.
May my life be one of gratitude and praise. Amen.
