The Psalm Project #21

Do you rulers speak justly?
Do you judge uprightly among men?
No, in your heart you devise injustice,
and your hands mete out violence on the earth (Psalm 58: 1-2 NIV).
Lord, in Your sovereign wisdom and love,
You have established our leaders.
We notice that some of them are good and govern with righteousness;
some are evil and serve only themselves.
Lord, help us respond appropriately to leaders around the world.
Help us to build alliances with the regimes we should support.
Help us to confront those leaders who are abusive to their own people.
Give us the discernment to be able to tell the difference.
Lord, in Your mercy, give us good leaders.
Help us root out those of despicable character.
Give wisdom to our President, our legislature, and our judges.
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
May Your Spirit dwell among us; make our country great. Amen.

The Psalm Project #20

I am in the midst of lions;
I lie among ravenous beasts—
men whose teeth are spears and arrows,
whose tongues are sharp swords. . .
When I am afraid,
I will trust in you (Psalm 57:4; 56:3 NIV).
Lord, I am horrified when I observe the people in this world,
when I hear their lies.
They speak evil as if it were truth.
They slander the innocent and praise the wicked.
They attack the righteous.
Everything is upside down.
Dear Lord, set Your creation in order.
Destroy the corrupt; make all things new.
Dear Jesus, when the end days come,
help me be courageous, because
I know the outcome.
I will welcome You when You come in glory.
Come quickly, Lord Jesus. Amen.

The Psalm Project #19

Your tongue plots destruction;
it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit (Psalm 52:2).
Lord, we are surrounded by negativity and downright lies.
Sometimes I can’t figure out who or what is true.
Lord, silence the deceivers. Expose the liars.
Let me not be taken in by manipulators.
Lord, only You are truth; I turn to You in my confusion.
Give me wisdom and discernment in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

The Psalm Project #18

Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me…
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise…
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones you have crushed rejoice (Psalm 51:10, 17, 8 NIV).
Lord, I confess that I have sinned against You.
I am embarrassed; I know better,
but I fail to live a holy life that reflects You.
Help me to do what is right
and turn away from my selfishness.
Let my intentions be pure.
Thank You for forgiving me;
take charge of my life.
Let me be so connected to You
that I resist going my own way.
Help me to love You more. Amen.

The Psalm Project #17

He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire (Psalm 46:9 NIV).
Lord, we long for peace in our world.
Nations look with suspicion at their neighbors—
will they invade and annex us?
Countrymen divide into factions
and annihilate each other.
When has the world ever been at peace?
For now we must be content with the peace only You can provide.
Can we intercede for peace around the world?
Will You bless our efforts when we sit at tables of diplomacy?
Lord, we pray that You will put an end to war.
Destroy the weapons.
Remove evil from the earth.
Amen.

The Psalm Project #16

We have heard with our ears, O God; our fathers have told us what you did in their days long ago (Psalm 44:1 NIV).
O God,
I love to hear the stories of how You protected Your people,
how You blessed them and established them in the Promised Land.
How You gave them victories against their enemies,
not by their strength but by Your love.
How You saved them, not by their works but by Your Son’s precious blood.
Lord, You love me, though I am unlovable.
I love You, because You forgave my sins.
Let me live like one redeemed.
In Your name, Amen.

The Psalm Project #15

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord … Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare (Psalms 40:3, 5 NIV).
Dear God, when I think of all You have done for me:
• Made a place for me in heaven
• Called me Your daughter
• Located me where I am on this earth
• Surrounded me with beauty
• Given me a family to love
• Given me meaningful work to do
• Slowly transformed me
My heart is filled with gratitude and joy.
Thank You, God, for all Your blessings and keep me close to You. Amen.
